Born and raised in the stunning landscapes of the Swiss Alps, TheHalfDecent has always approached the world from a distinct and unique perspective. After relocating to Toronto at the age of 11, his creative journey began to take shape, influenced by the skateboarding culture and the lively urban environment. Like many before him, he discovered graffiti through the skateboarding subculture.
After leaving a post-secondary art institution to explore his identity in his early twenties, he embarked on a journey across Europe that was intended to last three weeks but extended to three transformative years. Barcelona emerged as a pivotal chapter in his artistic evolution, where he immersed himself in the world of graffiti, utilizing the streets as a canvas to explore themes of identity, culture, and rebellion.
Upon returning to Toronto, the bold and expressive nature of graffiti naturally led him to the art of tattooingโa medium through which he refined his craft and developed a distinctive style. For the next decade, he dedicated himself to perfecting his skills, merging influences from skateboarding, graffiti, and street art.
Now, with a wealth of experience behind him, TheHalfDecent is revisiting his roots in painting, making significant strides in both the gallery and mural sectors. His work is characterized by a high-fashion, dark, and moody aesthetic that captures the complexity and duality of the human experience. Each piece reflects a profound connection to his journey, intricately blending his influences into compelling and thought-provoking art.
Looking ahead, he is committed to pursuing larger and more ambitious murals, creating exceptional tattoos, and continuing to push boundaries within the gallery scene, all with the goal of solidifying his reputation as one of the most innovative and skilled artists of his generation.
